Liess writes in her introduction, “This book is a guide to what I’ve learned through my work and through my personal experiences, describing in precise detail how I progress step-by-step through the design process to make the decisions that ultimately lead to a fully realized vision. I hope it inspires you to have fun while decorating.”

Praise For…

“In her first book, famed DC-based interior designer and blogger of Pure Style Home brings readers back to the basics by breaking down room essentials (color, texture, lighting) and incorporating natural components into the home (cue backyard greenery). Stunningly simple, this field guide is a survival book for any budding decorator.”
— USA Today

“In her new book Habitat: The Field Guide to Decorating, designer Lauren Liess shares her favorite, not-always-conventional ideas for livening up any space with art.”
— Country Living

“Lauren Liess’s Habitat has tons of tips, advice and sources. . . . Simple vignettes throughout inspire me to simplify and add more vintage and antique items to my house. This will be one I reference for a long time!”
— Elements of Style

“Liess proves an ability to mix natural elements composed of stone and wood with decidedly modern and vintage items (some of which can be rather eccentric). Figuring into many of the interiors we see in the book are some of Liess’s textile patterns, the sources for which often originate with wildflowers and other foliage. Liess is as methodical in her design work as she is in the organization of the book.”
— MILIEU magazine
